Should I use RAID 1 or RAID 5 for my Virtual Machine host server (Microsoft Hyper-V)? - how to build a raid server gigabyte motherboard
I build a server that is used as a virtual machine from one host server, using Microsoft Hyper-V as the operating system for hosting virtual servers. The material that I use a motherboard can accommodate up to 6 SATA 10,000 RPM. I'm using RAID 1 or RAID 5 I can not select with a mixture of different options for RAID. I have to choose between RAID 1 or RAID 5 for all disks. What would be the best option for performance? I think the creation of 10 virtual machines in the system. I know that I understand the entire hard drive and RAID-5 instead of RAID 1 (mirroring), but I wonder if there's an advantage for the use of RAID 1 for the entire system, with overall performance. Virtual machines are a combination of workstations, servers, databases, Web servers and other systems. The host operating system (MS Hyper-V) is a small amount of disk space. More space is to be run several virtual dedicated server. It is pointless, links to websites that describe the RAID (I know about the overall performance of the different types of RAID). I am interested to hear howMeon has to configure a RAID configuration to a virtual server hosting, and good advice on which option offers better performance.

RAID 5 can provide higher performance than RAID 1
RAID 1 mirrored.
RAID 5 is striping to overcome to RAID1
However, further research may be a hardware RAID card to try, to build a software RAID-basin motherboard. Their aggression gains can be offset by the CPU overhead.
And people should not be surprised if 6 x 7200 rpm with a high density (320 GB hard drives) and a hardware RAID card or exceeded at least match Velociraptor x 6 for a similar price.
